June 2024 Event Schedule for Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy

SPECIAL EVENTS   

Nature Club Butterflies at George F Canyon with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, June 8th, 10:30am – 11:30am.  Join us at George F Canyon Nature Center from 10:30am - 11:30am for a butterfly-themed Nature Club! We'll learn about the butterflies that live on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, make fun crafts, and go on a butterfly hike through the canyon. This event is free and suitable for ages 5-10.  

Native Plant Sale by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy - June 8th and June 22nd– Saturday, June 8th at George F Canyon 10:30am – 12pm, located at 27305 Palos Verdes Dr E, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274.   Create your own butterfly garden with a beautiful native plant from the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Our native plant expert will give you professional tips on creating a garden waystation and home for local species!  Join us Saturday, June 22nd at White Point Nature Education Center located at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro 10:30am – 12pm for another chance to get native plants.  

Full Moon Walk at George F Canyon Nature Preserve by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy,  Friday, June 21st, 8:30 pm - Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy for a naturalist guided hike on a moonlit trail to see nature’s nocturnal sights.  Ages 8+.  $12 per person.  Advance reservations are required. GUIDED MONTHLY WALKS  

Family Nature Walk at George F Canyon Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy,  Saturday, June 1st, 10:30am.  Naturalists will guide you along a trail through the preserve to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat with amazing views of the LA Basin. Meet on the back patio of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike.  Parking in Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. Guided Nature Walk at Forrestal Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, June 8th, 9am.  Appreciate some of the best wildflower viewing and dramatic geological formations on the cliffs of this former basalt quarry.  See the faults, folds and igneous intrusions visible in the sedimentary bedding.  Moderate to strenuous. Guided Family Nature Walk at White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, June 15th, 10:30am.  Naturalists will guide you along a trail to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat with amazing views across to the ocean.  Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike.  Preserve parking available at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 West Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro. OUTDOOR RESTORATION ACTIVITIES  

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, June 1st and Saturday June 22nd, 9am – 12pm. Come help us to restore habitat on the 22-acre restoration site to create a home for rare cactus wrens and gnatcatchers with beautiful views of Catalina Island. Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com  

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Sunday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 30th, 9am – 12pm.  Join us at White Point Nature Preserve! We will be working to maintain the preserve's restoration area of native plant species to improve critical habitat for wildlife at the preserve, and beautify outdoor natural space for the community.  Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Agua Amarga Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, June 15th and Saturday, June 29th, 9am – 12pm. Help remove invasive weeds and care for a community restoration site to benefit wildlife. Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com.  

Volunteer with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Rapid Response Team, Fridays & Saturdays, 9am - 12pm.  Work alongside the field staff to help protect important wildlife habitat.  Help with trail maintenance, fence building, installing signage and more!   Students can receive community service hours.  No experience needed. 15 and up. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES  

 Community Outreach  Volunteers 

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is looking for volunteers who enjoy sharing their love of nature and the Peninsula at community events around the South Bay. Join the Community Outreach volunteer team to help engage local the community for events and greet participants of our free monthly guided nature walks. No experience needed & flexible schedule.  For more information, contact Lynn Rotunno, at lrotunno@pvplc.org. Open to ages 18+  

Education Docent  

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is seeking volunteer education docents who would enjoy working with students, either in the classroom or for field trips and to greet visitors at one of two nature centers the Conservancy manages. For more information, contact Holly Gray, at hgray@pvplc.org. Open to ages 18+.  All training and materials provided.  

Environmental Restoration Team Leader  

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy provides a leadership development opportunity to learn to lead small teams at Outdoor Volunteer Days. If you are interested in restoring wildlife habitat and like working with others, Contact Susan Miles at smiles@pvplc.org  to learn more. Open to ages 16+. Training provided.
