The Fabulous Flower Fields in Carlsbad By Photographer and Adventurer Dianne Gowder

A sight to behold!

If you have never been to the Flower Fields in Carlsbad I highly recommend it, there are acres upon acres of glorious blooming ranunculus flowers and I found it well worth making the drive down there.

The color and variety of the blooms is incredible, thirteen different colors so they say. I didn’t count them,  carefully cultivated over the years. If you are a flower lover I think  you will be entranced. The Flower Fields have evolved over nearly 85 years of floral cultivation, although I am not sure when they opened to the public, sometime in the 90s I believe.

It is hard to pick a favorite color.
I loved them all, maybe the deep burgundy color.

The Flower Fields offers tractor rides around the property for those who are unable or unwilling to walk the whole area, the fields are on a hillside but it is not too steep. There  are also plenty of photo opportunities, there are little cut outs in the fields where benches are placed so you may take that photo with the flowers but still keep the flowers protected.

There is also a wonderfully fragrant sweet pea maze

Parking is free, and  food and drink are available along with many other varieties of flowers near the entrance and also at the top of the fields, even an aviary with some finches and doves. A must see are the orchids in the greenhouse and also the different varieties of poinsettia. I found the columbines very beautiful as well.

For me the ranunculus were the stars of the show.

The season is almost over for this year so perhaps put it on your calendar for next year.

I hope you enjoyed the photos. I did my best to capture the beauty but nothing compares to being there.

Dianne loves to walk and she tries to do at least 3 miles every day before she heads out to work. Her love of  photography evolved from her walks.

“ I have always been amazed by scenery here and more and more I found myself stopping to capture the beauty of my surroundings. As I shared my work I realized that very few people were even aware of what they have on their doorstep!”

Dianne has made it her mission to share the beauty through her photographs and she takes her friends on walks as often as possible.
