The saying, “You Can’t Go Home Again”, is true in so many ways, and probably how most alumni of Miraleste High School felt after the campus closed in 1991.  However, thanks to the hard work, dedication, and persistence of class of 1986 alum, Jack Alexander, among others, the campus will open for one more day as a High School to former students, faculty and staff on July 29, 2023 for an All-Class Reunion.

Hosting an Exclusive Tea Party!

El Segundo --- On Sunday, July 30, the historic Old Town Music Hall, located at 140 Richmond Street, presents a program on Barbara La Marr, a leading actress of the silent screen and one of the most iconic figures of the 1920s.  A legend in her time, Barbara led an astonishing life described by newspapers of the day as "a wilder story than she ever helped to film."

Los Angeles has a well-earned reputation as the City of Champions.  After all, it hosted the Summer Olympic games in 1932 and 1984, and it will soon host the 2028 Summer Games.  Adding to that resume, LA has been home to the World Series Champions, Super Bowl Champions, NBA Champions, and Stanley Cup Champions. 

TROUBLE IN PARADISE (1932)

In this masterful comedy directed by the great Ernst Lubitsch, a gentleman thief and a lady pickpocket join forces to con a beautiful perfume company owner, and romantic entanglements, and comedic jealousies ensue. One of the most sophisticated gems of the 1930s. Karie Bible joins us to share insights about this wonderful film, and about pre-code Hollywood. 

You will be amazed at the science and technology of the 19th century!  Wet-plate photography, the telegraph, iron clad ships and submarines, these are just some of the innovations you can explore at the Drum Barracks Civil War Technology Fair.  Talk to a blacksmith, learn how a cook prepared food for soldiers, and cover your ears as we fire the cannon.  You can also enjoy lectures, self-guided tours of the museum, and a gigantic book sale. It’s a free event. Time: 11:00am – 4:00 pm

There are several reasons for the residents of the Palos Verdes Peninsula to celebrate, as there are four important anniversaries this year.

This year is the 100-year anniversary of Palos Verdes Estates. The city was established in 1923 as a planned community. It was developed by the Palos Verdes Project, a subsidiary of the wealthy American banker, philanthropist, and land developer Frank A. Vanderlip. Inspired by the natural beauty of the peninsula, Vanderlip envisioned creating an exclusive residential area that harmoniously blended with the surrounding landscape.

Guided Nature Walk at Vicente Bluffs Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, July 8th, 9am.  Follow the bluff top from Point Vicente to Oceanfront Estates during the El Segundo blue butterfly flight season in an area containing restored coastal sage scrub habitat.
