Captivating Sunrises and Sunsets: The Perks of Peninsula Living By Photographer and Contributor Dianne Gowder
I believe we sometimes take for granted the fact that at certain times of the year we can see the sun rise and set over the ocean, not everyone is so lucky.Yes , I know, we have had quite a lot of clouds and coastal fog this year but I looked back at my 2023 photos and I find that we still had plenty of glorious sunrises and sunsets. I thought I would share a few with you. Starting with this sunset taken a Point Vicente a few weeks ago posted above. I am a big fan of sunrise as I am an early riser, and I find Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro is a good place to watch the day begin.
Another great location for both sunrise and sunset is the Korean Bell in San Pedro, in winter you can enjoy glorious skies at the beginning and the end of the day,
If you want to catch a beautiful sunset head over to Hesse Park in Palos Verdes for some colorful skies. I imagine you might get a great sunrise from there too, I have never gone at that time of day, perhaps I should.
Sunrises and Sunsets come in all different colors. I expect we all have a favorite. I am a big fan of red and pink skies with a few clouds for added interest, but they all make me catch my breath in awe.
I will leave you with one of my favorites so far this year.
How stunning is this sky with those clouds!

Dianne loves to walk and she tries to do at least 3 miles every day before she heads out to work. Her love of photography evolved from her walks.
“ I have always been amazed by scenery here and more and more I found myself stopping to capture the beauty of my surroundings. As I shared my work I realized that very few people were even aware of what they have on their doorstep!”
Dianne has made it her mission to share the beauty through her photographs and she takes her friends on walks as often as possible.
