The Palos Verdes Peninsula is Starting to Bloom! By Photographer Dianne Gowder
Have you noticed all the wonderful colors springing up around the Peninsula lately? The brilliant greens of new growth on the trees to pinks of the blossoms on the trees and the vibrant splashes of color as nature paints our world. I thought I might share some of that beauty with you. I don’t know the names of everything, but I’ll identify what I can. Let’s go walking around by Malaga Cove Library first. Have you seen those blooming trees?
Also around Malaga Cove place you will find these stunning azaleas and cross the road to the Memorial garden to enjoy a lovely display of daffodils.
Let’s not forget the wildflowers starting to bloom. I was going to say in the hedgerows.. but.. that was back in the UK. Not everyone loves the mustard, but to me, it’s so nice and cheerful! I have only seen one lupin this year so far, and a very pale one at that!
I can’t forget the South Coast Botanic Garden which is resplendent, with it’s new area of tulips and daffodils, their super bloom. Go soon or you will miss it!
I am seeing so much beauty just walking around in my neighborhood in San Pedro and on my walks in Palos Verdes. Our Peninsula has some very talented gardeners. Snowdrops are so delicate and rare in this part of the world, and I always enjoy the Icelandic poppies that seem to be a favorite of the bees, as you will see on the next page. There are some wonderful color combinations at this time of year too.
Just looking at these again puts a smile on my face, so I sincerely hope it will do the same for you! On
this page we have Icelandic poppies, freesia, morning glory (no really a spring flower I suppose) and paper whites.
I am going to finish with the glorious hybrid trumpet tree that graces the meadow at the South Coast Botanic Garden. I hope you will get outside and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. Be well.

Dianne loves to walk and she tries to do at least 3 miles every day before she heads out to work. Her love of photography evolved from her walks.
“ I have always been amazed by scenery here and more and more I found myself stopping to capture the beauty of my surroundings. As I shared my work I realized that very few people were even aware of what they have on their doorstep!”
Dianne has made it her mission to share the beauty through her photographs and she takes her friends on walks as often as possible.
