Foggy Mornings on the Peninsula: Learning to Appreciate the Beauty! By Photographer Dianne Gowder
Lately I have caught myself complaining about all the foggy and cloudy mornings we have had this year, but as I look back at my photographs I see how beautiful it is when the fog rolls in. So I am going to embrace the beauty of nature in all her different moods.
The cover photo and these were taken recently at the Filiorum Reserve where I was mostly above the fog and found myself transfixed by the beauty of the fog swirling through the canyons
The mist seems to soften the world around it and envelop it in a soft wet blanket. It can make for a really bad hair day.
Another wonderful spot to get up above the coastal fog is Hesse Park, on Hawthorne Boulevard, also a great place to catch the sunset, it’s a popular spot for photographers and walkers! I count myself as both of those things
Cabrillo Marina in San Pedro is really beautiful in the fog with the silhouettes of the boats in the mist.
Here we see the SS Lane Victory, which is a National Historic Landmark and contains a fascinating Museum, and also one of the most photogenic sailboats in the Marina, in my humble opinion!
Have you ever seen a fog bow? It’s quite a rare phenomenon. I have only seen it once right here in San Pedro at the White Point Nature Preserve and it’s pretty amazing. I don’t have the best photo but will share it anyway.
So I guess fog is not so bad after all! here are just a few more foggy photos, which I hope will show you the beauty of nature in a different way.
I wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

Dianne loves to walk and she tries to do at least 3 miles every day before she heads out to work. Her love of photography evolved from her walks.
“ I have always been amazed by scenery here and more and more I found myself stopping to capture the beauty of my surroundings. As I shared my work I realized that very few people were even aware of what they have on their doorstep!”
Dianne has made it her mission to share the beauty through her photographs and she takes her friends on walks as often as possible.
