Greeting the Day with a Golden Sunrise By Photographer and Contributor Dianne Gowder
I am an early riser so, for me, there is nothing I like better that getting out for a walk first thing in the morning.
We are so fortunate here on the peninsula to enjoy both sunrises and sunsets.
This photo is 17th St in San Pedro basking in the glow.
Put on your sunglasses everyone!
Point Fermin Park is another favorite place to walk, I try to time it so I will reach the park in time to see the sun come up, sometimes I get lucky and everything lines up!
This shot was taken from the park but looking across Sunken City to the harbor and beyond. On a clear day you can see all the way to Orange County.
Here I was lucky enough to capture it in the White Point Nature Preserve, not so easy with hills in the way, and also one of the best places at daybreak, Carrillo Beach. Yes, we are still in San Pedro
We see the Angel’s Gate lighthouse, also known as the Los Angeles harbor light house and the hills of Orange County beyond. I did a little zooming there.
The second photo is Carrillo Way Marina.
Of course the golden glow is not limited to San Pedro, if we just move round the peninsula to Palos Verdes we can still see a glorious golden sunrise or we wait a few hours we might just get rewarded by a gleaming sunset, as you can see from the top two shots.
We have had some clouds and gloom along the coast this week, but I hope we’ll get our glorious golden glow back soon and I will leave you with a golden Terranea sunset and hope you enjoyed the photographs.

Dianne loves to walk and she tries to do at least 3 miles every day before she heads out to work. Her love of photography evolved from her walks.
“ I have always been amazed by scenery here and more and more I found myself stopping to capture the beauty of my surroundings. As I shared my work I realized that very few people were even aware of what they have on their doorstep!”
Dianne has made it her mission to share the beauty through her photographs and she takes her friends on walks as often as possible.
