Palos Verdes Little League Baseball is Back By Local Contributor Morley Boyd
Opening day for Palos Verdes Little League has been a staple in the Palos Verdes community for over 70 years. The day begins in the wee hours of the morning with each team decorating their own float unique to their team which they then parade around with a police escort. Another monumental event that happens on opening day is the opening of the snack shack. This snack shack is no average snack shack, mind you. It offers some of the best burgers that money can buy, all kinds of candies and snacks, and provides Saturday specials like Giuliano’s sandwiches and breakfast burritos from Good Stuff. In addition, the whole park is filled with inflatable slides, mazes, a rock climbing wall, and a Wetzel’s Pretzels truck. And all the while you can watch some elite little league baseball, which never fails to excite. This year, it was nothing different- a lively and enjoyable opening day that brought the whole community together for the love of the game.
Major league play kicked off with the Phillies taking down the Orioles with a score of 6-2. The following game between the Dodgers and Padres was a shootout with a combined 21 runs from both teams. As the sun set on another successful Opening Day, the sense of community and camaraderie was felt all over Palos Verdes. With exciting young talent on display, family-friendly activities, and the unwavering support of local moms and dads, Palos Verdes Little League’s tradition of bringing the neighborhood together remains stronger than ever.
