There is something MAGICAL about CHRISTMAS By Photographer and Contributor Simie Seaman
Whether you’re religious or not, the holiday season feels a bit more magical when you connect with something outside of yourself and reflect on all the things you’re grateful for this holiday season. From the first hint of the Christmas season, our minds are set on a magical journey of hope and nostalgia. We look forward to treating others to a surprise and recall our own delightful Christmas mornings.
There are still a couple weeks until Christmas, but once the weather starts to change, people feel like Christmas is close and they start decorating their houses, and preparing them for the holiday season. It does not matter if you are a teenager, adults or in spirit wasteland age, if you love the magic of Christmas, then it is not too early to get your house into the spirit of Christmas.
This is the best way to recapture the childhood magic of Christmas. To capture the magic of Christmas, try to hold on to some of the childhood traditions you used to LOVE. Although you might feel too old for these rituals now, by reliving your childhood traditions the Christmas magic will soon come flooding back. The magic will be yours. In December, the spirit of giving sings from within as we open our homes to neighbors, loved ones and longtime friends. For we know in our hearts this is the greatest gathering-the warmest of all homecomings.
Our fondest Christmas memories come to mind in hazy images of holidays past with family and precious friends that thankfully draws us together year after year. And as the circumstances of our lives continue to change, we will treasure all the more those that remain the same. We’ve all been in such a house at Christmastime–whether it was our own home or not– and we can remember that the experience of being surrounded by sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the holiday made everything seem magical. When you enter your home, your senses are the ones that get you in the Christmas mood.
We cherish the rituals that hallmark the season-hanging the ornaments, stockings, wrapping the gifts, making holiday treats, writing letter a to Santa, and we are comforted by the simple pleasures, each becoming more meaningful with the passing of time. These are the true joys of Christmas and the soul of the home. Over the years, my Christmas celebrations have evolved.
Of course, faith and family have always been at the heart. One of my favorite things at Christmas is the unwrapping of the ornaments and reminiscing over the each one that has been added to our collection. Once the tree is trimmed and the wreath is hung, it’s time to add a few more embellishment – the little final touches that pull everything together.
Whether you’re getting creative with extra ribbon and tree cuttings, dressing up your entry table, or setting a magical table by adding personality to a place setting, the details are what rounds out your holiday look. So many of our holiday memories are made around the table-a place where the essence of Christmas comes together in warm companionship, family traditions, and a glorious abundance of home-cooked fare. Whether an elaborate spread or a cozy table for two, we look forward to the meaningful moments when we share the company of loved ones.
There’s so much magic wrapped up in Santa, that I do feel sad for those that lose that special magic, wonderment, excitement and joy. Santa is so much more than just presents arriving in the middle of the night. Santa embodies all that is good in this world: caring about others, working to create something wonderful for someone else, giving with no expectation of something in return. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and hope this magical season of memories and dreams bring you joy.
