On Saturday May 6, 2023, what you will find are hidden gems of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Follow the clues to public and private historical, artistic and architectural sites on a tour sponsored by The Circle of Palos Verdes Art Center to benefit PVAC’s visual arts programs.
The Art of The Road…A Driving Tour will feature classic and modern cars—each with a driver and navigator and all following the lead of Grand Marshal Dana Graham in his French blue 1932 Chrysler Imperial convertible sedan.
The tour departs at 2:30 pm from First Church of Christ, Scientist, and ends at 4:30 pm with a casual Finish Line Celebration at the Palos Verdes Art Center, 5504 Crestridge Rd., Rancho Palos Verdes. Tickets to participate in the tour and the party are $350 for driver and navigator, while the party alone is $125 per person. Tickets can be ordered at:

The tour’s classic cars will be showcased at the party, giving guests the opportunity to admire the workmanship of these treasured vehicles.
The Finish Line also will have a savory barbeque dinner; silent auction of special gifts and experiences to delight both car aficionados and art enthusiasts; children’s art exhibition; music and dancing; games, and a special Stingray libation honoring the 70th anniversary of America’s original sports car: the 1953 Corvette.
Chevrolet introduced the Corvette as a concept car: an American roadster comparable to European sports cars. Primarily hand-built, only 300 two-passenger qconvertibles, with then-revolutionary fiberglass bodies, were completed that first year. Each was white with a red interior and black soft top and sold for $3490 ($35,347 in 2021 dollars).
Grand Marshal Dana Graham, a Realtor and Palos Verdes native, has loved cars since childhood and also owns a 1929 Packard Dietrich dual-cowl phaeton. He’s done much of the work on the cars himself.
“It’s therapeutic, and it’s hard to find people to work on them so you learn to do stuff,” he said. “It’s interesting to see what they did with the technology they had.”
For 92 years, Palos Verdes Art Center/Beverly G. Alpay Center for Arts Education has presented quality visual arts exhibition, education and outreach programming. Believing in the power of art to spark the imagination, be an agent for change and unlock unlimited possibilities for community engagement and personal empowerment, PVAC makes the visual arts accessible and affordable in a safe and welcoming space.
Proceeds from The Art of the Road will benefit the non-profit Art Center’s programming, including exhibitions; Art At Your Fingertips, which provides in-school art creation and appreciation to Palos Verdes elementary students each year; Special Mornings, which broadens the horizons of special needs students from throughout Los Angeles county, and art classes and camps.
