As we approach spring, there are plenty of events going on around the Peninsula that you don’t want to miss. Here’s your roundup of this month’s events.
51st Annual Festival of the Kite
This free community event at the Redondo Beach Pier will offer a variety of family-friendly activities, including live music, face painting, dance performances, a taekwondo demonstration, a hot dog on a stick eating contest, giveaways and, of course, kite flying. Find more information here.

Hermosa Beach’s 29th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Hermosa Beach’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration is back. Join the community in celebrating with a parade featuring local nonprofits, unique vehicles and cool brands, and live music and dance performances on the pier. Find more information here.

“Great Challenges of our Spectacularly Beautiful PV” with artist Don Crocker
This presentation will be by plein air artist Don Crocker, who has spent many years painting the cliffs and shores of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Find more information here.

Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve
You can join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy in volunteering at White Point Nature Preserve. They need help planting native shrubs, removing invasive weeds, watering native plants and grooming trails. Sign up here to participate.

“Lights, Camera, Creativity” Filmmaking Event
This activity invites people of all ages with varying levels of filmmaking skill to take part in viewing films, learning about filmmaking, and asking questions about the process.
“Whether you're a student just starting out or someone who's always dreamed of telling your own story, this event is for you!” the website states. “We’re showcasing a diverse range of short films and online content from budding to professional filmmakers of all ages, covering everything from advertising and online content to thought-provoking art films.”
The featured filmmakers for the event include Luca Pizzoleo, David Anthony Butler and Sir Kenneth Riley. Find more information here.

South Bay Film Society Screening: “Janis Ian: Breaking Silence”
The South Bay Film Society is featuring the documentary “Janis Ian: Breaking Silence” before it opens in New York later this month. The documentary tells the story of Ian’s rise in the music industry. There will also be an after-film discussion with film critic Christy Lemire. Find more information and book tickets here.

“Spiked: A Celebration of Agave” at the South Coast Botanic Garden
The South Coast Botanic Garden is bringing an agave-centered event to the garden this month. “Spiked: A Celebration of Agave” will offer tacos, tequila and mezcal tastings, entertainment and more. It will be free for members and up to $15 for the public. People can also purchase VIP tickets, which are $20 for members and up to $37 for the public. VIPs will receive a special tasting experience.
“Watch an agave roasting demonstration, sip on specialty tequila and mezcal cocktails, grub on tacos and tortas and groove to live music throughout the day,” the South Coast Botanic Garden website states. “Dive into the hands-on fun with a Papel Picado demonstration and crafting station; interactive games and stunning photo ops!”
