From Beach Vibes to Bold Flavors: Inside Brewco Social's Culinary Experience By Writer and Contributor Emily McGinn
Brewco Social, the newest addition to the Zislis Group’s South Bay restaurant portfolio, opened its doors in June, offering a fresh take on California cuisine.
Revamping the former restaurant-bar concept BREWCO, which occupied the space for 33 years, Brewco Social features a modern, well-lit design and a full bar with 24 locally brewed draft beers. The ambiance deliberately avoids the typical sports bar vibe, and even the menu has a clean, minimalist style, enhancing the overall fresh and contemporary feel.
Ideally located in the Beach Cities, Brewco Social is a short walk from the Manhattan Beach Pier. The restaurant's open-air window at the front provides a delightful sea breeze and ocean view while you dine. For those seeking more privacy, seating farther inside the restaurant is recommended.
The menu, rooted in New American cuisine with global influences, includes a variety of starters, sandwiches, salads, sushi rolls, and entrees. A standout starter is the house-made pão de queijo, a Brazilian cheese bread that offers a unique spin on the traditional bread-and-butter appetizer.
Brewco Social, as a beach restaurant, features numerous seafood dishes, such as its four sushi roll options, wood-grilled New Caledonian shrimp starter, and California sea bass. The shrimp starter is a refreshing and subtle appetizer, suitable even for those who are cautious of seafood dishes.
For main dishes, Brewco Social offers a diverse array of options, including pasta and Korean spare ribs. The flavors are far from conventional, with dishes like the spicy Korean duroc pork spare ribs providing a complex flavor experience of sweet, smoky, and spicy notes, perfectly complemented by the sour Asian slaw.
The roasted cauliflower is a surprising yet welcome addition to the menu. Paired with black lentils, arugula, and flavorful sauces, this light, summery dish stands out as the main vegan option, maintaining high quality among other entrees.
The cavatelli pasta, featuring Brewco Social’s house-made pasta with a pork sauce, offers a distinct meaty flavor and a thicker sauce texture, appealing to fans of hearty pasta dishes.
For dessert, the restaurant offers a limited menu with options reminiscent of an old-fashioned American diner, such as hot fudge sundaes, soft serve, and root beer floats.
Though open for only a few weeks, Brewco Social has already teased future menu additions and plans to introduce a late-night menu.
Overall, Brewco Social embodies freshness in every aspect, from its layout and rotating wall art to its innovative takes on classic dishes. Regardless of what you order, Brewco Social promises a refreshing and unique dining experience.
