It all began in 1969 when wine pioneer Vince Cilurzo planted the first vines, introducing Petite Syrah and Chenin Blanc to the region. By 1986, Bud Van Roekel expanded the vineyard, adding Muscat Canelli, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel. His commitment to excellence ensured that Avensole’s grapes were among the finest in California.
The Lytton Legacy
Inspired by Sylvia and William "Bill" Lytton, Avensole Winery carries forward a tradition steeped in music, family, and a passion for wine. The Lytton’s’ frequent visits to Sylvia’s native Vienna, Austria, with its enchanting vineyards and rich winemaking traditions, fueled their dream of creating a winery that captured the elegance and charm of their European experiences.
Sylvia, a celebrated pianist, and Bill, a talented saxophonist and clarinetist, shared a profound love for music. Their legacy of harmony and dedication to their craft lives on through their children, Sheldon, and Maribeth, who established Avensole Winery in Temecula, reminiscent of their cherished Austrian summers.

At the helm of Avensole's culinary adventures is Executive Chef Taylor Israelsen. Born in Southern California, Chef Taylor’s journey began with a passion for health and nutrition, leading her to the culinary world. Her experience at Walt Disney World ignited a deeper love for the fast-paced kitchen environment. Returning to California, she honed her skills in various casual restaurants and culinary school.
For the past six years, Chef Taylor has brought her French culinary training and love for fresh, natural ingredients to Avensole Winery. Her menus are inspired by seasonal offerings, creating an ever-evolving dining experience that complements the winery’s exceptional wines.
