Comedian Sean Leary Wants More Laughter in the South Bay
Comedian Sean Leary wants more laughter in the South Bay. You've probably never heard of him. But he doesn't care.
Sean Leary is a Midwest bred; Los Angeles based comedian changing the game in stand-up comedy. Sean has cultivated a major following with his successful run of pop-up comedy shows at unique locations all over the country. Beach shows, house shows, gym shows, if there is space, Sean & his hilarious fiancé, Anna Simeri, can make it into an incredible show. Sean has been featured on Fox's Laughs, HULU, Fusion, competed in AGT Season 10, Yahoo Sports Comedians Against the Spread & has even opened a comedy club in his hometown of Brookings, SD which he runs remotely from Los Angeles. In 2022, Sean inked a sponsorship deal with Michelob Ultra.
Sean wanted more comedy in the South Bay....so last month, he started a pop-up comedy club at Unita, a Manhattan Beach coworking spacelocated near Manhattan Village.
“We’re really emphasizing the live performance,” Leary saidof the shows, “and making sure someone has fun and then wants to go tell other people about it and hopefully come back again.”
Leary is really thrilled with his partnership with Unita.
“They really support artists,” Leary said about Unita, “and they really support striving and hustling creators.”
The Unita coworking space opened a Manhattan Beach location three years ago. Besides renting out office space, Unita offers podcast, virtual reality and photo studios, as well as other amenities for people in the arts, entertainment or creative industries.
Leary attended St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, studying communications with an emphasis on sports and broadcasting, but he always wanted to move to California, Leary said.
After performing at a couple of open mic events in Minnesota, Leary said, he decided to"take his talents to LA" with his high energy affable comedy.
Besides the South Baycomedy club events, Leary also hosts monthly shows at the Heal the Bay Aquarium in Santa Monica and at the Venice Outdoor Comedy Clubat Podshare. He also has shows in Nevada, South Dakota, Minnesota, & Colorado. He's gearing up for 2023 tour dates in Chicago, New York, & San Diego.
Leary said he hopes to team with Unita to bring monthly comedy to the “amazing” audiences in the South Bay.
The comedy club shows are free for Unita members. Tickets for the general public — available on Eventbrite — cost $30.
“It’s bring your own food and beverage, and people just love that,” Leary said. “Bring a 6 pack. Bring a cooler. Bring your dog. Let's have a ball"
