At the Long Beach International Film Festival, You Can Meet a Culinary Icon
At this five-course meal featuring a film and food pairing, Jacques Pepin will be honored.
Jacques Pepin and Julia Child were the television chefs who first introduced the public to the love of fine cuisine, long before Bourdain and Flay.
The 16-time James Beard Award winner chef began his incredible career as a military chef in the 1950s and has continued to this day. In September 2022, Pepin, who is 86 years old, will publish his most recent book. With tales, illustrations, and recipes, Art of the Chicken: A Master Chef's Paintings, Stories, and Recipes of the Humble Bird will pay homage to the chicken.
Next week, at a function called Chefs & Shorts that is a part of the Long Beach International Film Festival, Pepin's devoted followers will get the chance to interact with this culinary icon in person. On Thursday, July 28, the event will take place at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach, New York.
Chefs & Shorts will serve visitors a five-course dinner with each course being inspired by a short film, which will be a combination of a film festival and wine pairing dinner. The short film will be shown while each course is being delivered, creating a totally immersive evening of delectable cuisine, excellent wine, and intriguing visual art.
The evening's official honoree will be Jacques Pepin. A purslane ravioli prepared by John Maffei will be served, along with a 2020 Cantina Zaccagnini Pinot Grigio and the movie The Cocktail Party (director: Jessica Sanders).
Chef Guy Reuge will then serve a lamb loin with a Moroccan spice crust, 2015 Bee Hunter Pinot Noir, and the movie Sorry, Not Sorry (director: Monique Sorgen).
A 2021 Chateaude Segries Tavel Rose and the movie Egg will be served with a plate of an egg yolk poached in olive oil and served on toast with duck confit (director: Michael Goldberg).
A smoked razor clam ceviche prepared by chef Frank Giordano will be served together with a 2018 Bee Hunter Brut Nature and the movie Champagne (director: Olivia Saperstein).
Chef Michael Howell will also screen the movie That's My Jazz along with a 2016 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port and a dark chocolate pate with pistachio crème (director: Ben Proudfoot).
Tickets for the event are available here for $199 through the event's day.
