The 2022 Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance By Dana Graham, President of the Palos Verdes Historical Society
Can you imagine a more intrinsically appropriate place for the display of exotic or phenomenal classic cars than Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills? Every year for Father’s Day Rodeo Drive is blocked off between Wilshire and Santa Monica Blvds for the annual Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance. This is an invitation-only event for exhibitors, which ensures that the rarest, seldom seen cars emerge from their climate-controlled, mink-lined garages to be displayed for public enjoyment. Many of these cars you simply don’t see except in books and magazines. This has got to be the best FREE Father’s Day event in Southern California, maybe the world? Attendance this year was the greatest I’ve seen in 12 years of participation – estimated to be in excess of 50,000.
This year the show was preceded by a short driving tour of Beverly Hills for certain selected cars. We went up to the historic Beverly Hills Hotel and back down to Rodeo Drive where the show went from 11 am to 4 pm. We were honored to have Mr George Chavez, City Manager of Beverly Hills, as our passenger.
If you want something unique and fun to do next Father’s Day, even if you’re not into cars, this free event is hard to beat. But get there early so you don’t miss the experience of seeing these classics and exotics driving down the road.
