ABOUT SEE’S CANDIES

See’s is celebrating 100 delicious years! See’s story began in 1921 with chocolate

salesman, Charles See and his mother, Mary, opening a small shop in Los Angeles to

sell handmade confections from Mary’s recipes. These treats soon became the talk of

the town. In fact, LA’s delivery service started with a See’s motorcycle—everyone

wanted a bite!

See’s continued to innovate and deliver Quality Without Compromise®, even in tougher

times. Through the Great Depression and WWII, shops made less candy instead of

skimping on quality, and people lined up in droves to get a taste. See’s was also the

first to have liquid chocolate delivered by tanker trucks—a method we still use to this

day. Our delicious expansion continued beyond California, across the globe, and then

online. Last year, we launched Click-Pick-Go, a contact free pick up option, so that

customers could get their treats safely and easily.

From door-to-door delivery to eCommerce, See’s stands the test of time as a modern

classic. For 100 years, we’ve remained committed to using only the best ingredients

in every American-made delicious piece. While rooted in rich history, we look forward

to the future for inspiration. We can’t wait to see what deliciousness the next century

holds—everyone’s favorite candy is here to stay!

PAIRINGS

NOTE: All See’s candies listed below were pulled from the Centennial Assortment. Nostalgic flavors join new favorites in this commemorative selection marking See’s 100th year.

See’s Candies Milk Vanilla Buttercream or Butterscotch Lollypop & Rombauer Chardonnay

·        Milk Vanilla Buttercream: A favorite created in the 1940s. A buttery, creamy soft center coated in smooth milk chocolate.

·        Butterscotch Lollypop: Made from heavy cream, butter and rich butterscotch. One-of-a-kind in both flavor and shape.

·        Rombauer Chardonnay: One of Rombauer’s most popular wines. Comes from the south end of the Napa Valley and Sonoma in the Carneros region. It is a classic California style wine – big and full-bodied.

·        Tasting notes: This pairing was selected because of the creaminess and texture. The hint of vanilla pairs nicely with Chardonnay. Notes of fruit, oak, butter and vanilla. A big, full wine pairs well with candies – especially See’s Candies!

See’s Candies Raspberry Truffle or Dark Scotchmallow & Rombauer Zinfandel

·        Raspberry Truffle: Truffle center of dark chocolate, cream and raspberries covered in rich dark chocolate and decorated with white chocolate lace. From a list of 250 recipes, truffles were introduced to See’s in the early 1980s. The tasting experience adds more unique depth to the candy assortment. When See’s first started to create truffles in the 1980s they brought in equipment from Europe – See’s invented their own style of truffle and decided to head down a completely new path of candy expansion.

·        Dark Scotchmallow: A layer of caramel with a layer of honey marshmallow covered in rich, dark chocolate. This piece owns the spot as See’s Candies most popular – showcasing a unique marshmallow recipe made with honey. See’s makes their own marshmallows with honey and stores them in a room that is kept at a precise humidity level.

·        Rombauer Zinfandel: Rombauer’s second most popular wine. Grown predominatly in the Sierra Foothills in California where there are some older vines. With the old vines, you get small berries which provide a beautiful concentration of fruit without being syrupy or jam-like.

·        Tasting notes: The little bit of sweetness in the Zinfandel is well-balanced with the acid and pairs beautifully with the fruit, dark chocolate and caramel.

See’s Candies Dark Maple Walnut & Rombauer Solera (port style red)

·        Dark Maple Walnut: Brown sugar soft center with maple sugar and walnuts, enrobed in rich dark chocolate. Features a Mary See original fudge recipe: one of See’s oldest classics.

·        Rombauer Solera: One of Rombauer’s specialty, winery-only wines. It’s a port-style dessert wine. As a dessert wine, it’s a great fit for all chocolates.

·        Tasting notes: Fruit notes from the wine compliment the rich maple and dark chocoalte flavors from the candy.
