The Joy of a Vintage and Second Hand Christmas By Simie Seaman
Whatever your taste is, be definitive about it. At Christmas, you can make it glorious and glamorous. This season think outside the box, by adding a new twist to classic styles or decorations with vintage and second- hand Christmas decorations ideas to bring some of nostalgic charm to your home. From using vintage in your Christmas decorations to decorating in an old-fashioned and lovely style, these ideas will help you make this the most beautiful holiday season ever.
I love to mix new with old. Using vintage or second-hand finds helps keeps the cost down and usually end up being my favorites. I have been a collector for many years, collecting Vintage, Antiques and beautiful things. I often get asked what you do with all of it. Well that’s an easy answer! I enjoy it! I live with it. I LOVE to incorporate it into my daily living, from home décor to my clothing to my tablecsapes to create my unique style. I think you should shine through when you’re decorating, and you should have fun doing it. The holiday season is about tradition and the people that are with you and the memories you create with them. So the main thing is really just making sure that what your home is, it truly a reflection of you throughout the holidays. Start with a color palette it doesn’t have to be just red and green. You could do navy, purple, green, gold and different shades of reds. Consider decorating in a theme. Themes for the holiday decor allows for storytelling and some consistency throughout. It’s good to have a plan and try to tie the elements together.
The Christmas tree isn’t the only place to display your gorgeous vintage ornaments. If you have some decorations passed down from your parents, and grandparents or have found some of these treasure in antique and second-hand store, you know they work beautifully on the tree. However, they can get visually lost amid the other tree decorations. Give them the attention they deserve by hanging them from ribbons from the dining room chandelier or fill a silver bowl with them and place them around the house.
The most wonderful time of the year just isn’t complete without a Christmas tree. A well-appointed tree can, of course, turn any space into a magical holiday oasis. But just because classic Christmas trees are always in style doesn’t mean you to have to settle for a standard Spruce or Douglas fir. Think out of the box and break the status quo and reimage the holiday staple. Make your tree uniquely you. You can use an antique mirror to add lots of vintage charm to your home, and you can use it to reflect your decorations for double impact. Create a special display with a vintage bowl, candles, and lots of greenery. Position the mirror so it reflects your Christmas tree or another beautiful holiday decoration in your home. Vintage nativity scenes and holiday figurines are always a classic and there are lots of ways to display them. They create a look that everyone loves.
The simplest way to make your home feel a bit more luxe for the holidays is to add a few tiny touches that welcome texture to your indoor space. Add a little foliage, berries to your greens. Don’t forget bring in the light — you can never have too many white lights in my opinion. Bonus points if you can find some warmer tones to make your space feel even cozier. The closer we get to Christmas, the more I find myself thinking about my Christmas table decorations. And I LOVE it! All of the festive celebrating gives me the chance to try out different Christmas
Tablescapes ideas using as much of my Vintage Christmas collection as possible My family typically enjoys our big Christmas meal on Christmas. We celebrate with a fairly formal dinner so we dress up a bit. Having a dinner allows us to enjoy the ambiance of the candles and Vintage lanterns. Lighting is so important, I use a combination of pillar candles and Vintage lanterns to get that gorgeous warm inviting glow. I tend to mix formal and traditional pieces with my Vintage Christmas Table Decorations, for a uniquely ME tablescape.
Don’t forget that you don’t have to be too strict; the important thing is to be surrounded by your treasures and those who you love that bring you joy, after all it’s meant to be the happiest time of the year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
