Pearls Bring Everyday Elegance and Luxury to Our Lives. By Betty Sue King
Pearls, past and present
There was a time when pearls were white, cream, pink, golden, black round or baroque. They were stored in boxes and brought out for special occasions. Today, lifestyles are less formal where pearls are integrated into everyday life.
Summer pearls (Fig. 1)
Summer’s sweet pearl pleasures are so pretty in pink, peach, lavender, white. They lightly grace your neck with brilliant luster radiating in sunlight then glow at dusk. (Fig 1) Graceful long ovals, round and near round are matched for size, luster, color and surface—all desirable pearl qualities. Experience being drawn into eye pleasing, pure pastel hues. Enjoy wearing them all year long.
Upon seeing this image, goldsmith Julia Ross commented, “OK, I’m putting on a strand of pearls and going to water my garden before the heat turns on. Thank you for the inspiration, BSK!”
Luscious keshi, stick and Edison pearls (Fig. 2)
A luscious keshi lei of misty lavender petals float over a Victorian style pearl stick collar. Glowing round and drop Edison strands grace us with multiple colors. (Fig. 2) Abundant freshwater pearl cultivation offers the most diverse range of unique shapes and styles. There is something for everyone to swoon over. Edison pearls were named by its developers honoring Thomas Edison as the king of invention. He was unable to cultivate pearls or diamonds in his time. In our era his quest for both have become our reality.
Keshi pairs (Fig. 3)
Aglow with vibrant luster, graceful and smooth petal keshi pearls are easy on your earlobes. (Fig 3) Sizeable yet lightweight, they’re ideal for walking, horseback riding, cooking, gardening… Yes, enjoy wearing pearls everywhere.
Wear your pearls
Years ago, I “saved” pearls for special occasions. Now, every day is special. Be a trend setter. Face masks and pearls make a fine paring of safe practice and style shopping at Whole Foods or Bristol Farms. You can’t mask the luster of pearls to brighten your spirit and outlook. Pearls are comforting in this time of uncertainty.
All freshwater pearls featured have natural colors and are cultivated in China.
Betty Sue welcomes inquiries and questions for pearls and custom designs.
