Marilyn Monroe Beaming Down From Heaven About New Beginnings by Greg Schreiner
As we start the New Year, always an opportunity for new beginnings, I wanted to share with you a great find that I had at the close of 2020. In the early 1980’s one of my first acquisitions as a costume collector was an orange robe worn by Marilyn Monroe in publicity photos. The photographer was Ernest Bachrach. I was so thrilled to own this robe by my favorite movie star, but the teddy she wore underneath had not come with the robe.
It was only many years later in the 1990’s, that I discovered the underneath teddy was owned by Gene London, a famous collector of movie costumes. Fast forward to December, 2020 and I was finally able to acquire this teddy to complete the outfit. So after 67 years, they are finally back together again. What a wonderful and strange journey these two pieces have had. The robe is chiffon with a beautiful lace adorning the waistline. The same lace is found on the silk teddy as well surrounding the top and bottom of this piece.
I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally reunite this two pieces. I can only hope that Marilyn is beaming down from Heaven that they are back together again. For those wanting to see more of my Marilyn collection, please go to www.themarilynmonroesite.com. I have also been president of her fan club , Marilyn Remembered, since 1982.
