Fairy Nice By International Hypnosis Federation President, Author, Artist and More Shelley Stockwell-Nicholas, PhD
The Palos Verdes Peninsula is a miss-tickle place!
Recent surveys from the Fairy Godmother and Godfather Society nominated the P.V. Peninsula as America’s sacred “Spiritual Belly Button.” One investigator put it this way, “A belly button nourishes positive growth and renewal. In giving this award we took into consideration the temperate weather, the magnificent terrain, the friendly warm-hearted citizens and most importantly, the community’s love of trees and nature to give Palos Verdes top honors.”
This survey encompassed data gathering by guiding spirits which evoked many reported sightings of angels, guides, pixies and the like. Perhaps you yourself had a comforting sense, feel, vision, sound or even the sweet smell of fairy dust. Those who noticed the information gatherers reported increased motivation, extra energy, and a tendency to do an uncontrollable happy dance.
If you think fairies are simply delightful creations of the imagination. Think again. When you work with as many people as I have over 50 years, such gossamer sightings are well attested. Could their existence be even more than you imagine?
Since earliest days, ancient Greeks and Romans noted fairies and other elementals witnessed by the so-called “sixth sense.” To this day, indigenous peoples in the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, and many other traditions recognize nature spirits or “elementals.”
In Ireland many accept the presence of fairies—although they refer to them as the “Good People” or “Gentle Folk.” Irish maps are liberally sprinkled with “fairy circles.” It’s said that these folks live in “dolmens” or “raths.”
When you visit the ancient center of Ireland, Uisneach, you’re shown the huge capstone that, by tradition, is a “portal to the land beneath where fairies live.” In 1999, the building of a motorway was forestalled until the Irish National Roads Authority agreed to save a fairy hawthorn from harm and build a fence around it. The fairy folk (“sidhe” in the Irish language) were said to rest beneath it.
So, the next time you stroll on one of our wonderful nature trails or ponder the magnificence of the trees perhaps you too will see the unseen local fairies. And, if you think about it, you might thank your lucky stars that the Palos Verdes Peninsula is so very enchanting.
